Permits

Permits may be required at either the state or local level. A permit is defined as a license, registration or similar form of authorization required by New York State. Some businesses need specific New York State Permits. Information regarding which state business permits may be required is available through the Governor's Office of Regulatory Reform (GORR). GORR provides a Permit Assistance Kit (PAK) for certain types of businesses with a checklist of New York State permit requirements including application forms and instructions for obtaining the permits. Additionally, it is necessary to contact the village, town or city clerk where the business will be located for local permitting requirements.
