Name registration - Doing Business As (DBA)

If you plan to conduct business under a name other than your own, the name must be registered. Registration of a name, however, is not permission to conduct business. Sole proprietorships and general partnerships are registered with the county clerk where the business is conducted. Corporations, limited partnerships and limited liability companies are registered with the New York Department of State as part of the filing process.
